Moyes wanted more time

David Moyes insists he should have been given more time to succeed when manager at Manchester United. The Scot, who was announced at the successor to Sir Alex Ferguson in May 2013, lasted just 10 months after a poor run of results but believes the Old Trafford club are still suffering after the departure of their greatest manager. Louis van Gaal replaced Moyes, before the Dutchman was himself succeeded by Jose Mourinho, who has spent around £400million on the squad and led United to their worst start to a league season since 1990-91 following a draw to Crystal Palace at the weekend. "To go to a club like Manchester United and follow someone like Sir Alex after the time he had been there, to stay for 10 months. " It couldn't be a revolution at Manchester United, it had to be evolution. It had to take time." "I wasn't going to come in and change all the things Alex had done, but there were lots of things that had to be changed at the club." Moyes added that he thinks United should have mimicked the way bitter rivals Manchester City had done things after the retirement of Ferguson. "You look at the way Chelsea and Man City had been doing things and changing things along the way – Manchester United had been winning because they had a special manager and a special group of players," he said.
